Why are we holding public meetings?

  • Initiate a conversation with stakeholders and the public, on the revision process and proposed Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) changes to the guidance document.
  • Provide an opportunity for the NRC and FEMA to answer any questions about the proposed revision.
  • Provide an opportunity for representatives from various stakeholder groups, and the public, to provide feedback on the proposed revision.
  • Discuss opportunities for stakeholder and public involvement.

How will the meetings be conducted?

NRC and FEMA representatives will discuss the revision process and proposed changes to NUREG-0654/FEMA-REP-1. Representatives from various stakeholder groups, reflecting the interests of State, local, industry, and non-governmental organizations, will then provide insights and recommendations on the proposed revision. Other stakeholders and interested members of the public will also be provided the opportunity to comment.

To enhance public involvement, teleconferencing and Web conferencing capabilities will be available for the meetings to allow for remote participation. For information on how to register to participate by telephone or through the Web, please see the notice for the meeting that you wish to attend on the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/public-involve/public-meetings/index.cfm.

How can you voice your thoughts and ideas?

Docket number FEMA-2012-0026 has been set up on www.regulations.gov where the public can begin to voice their ideas. This Web site is used by Federal agencies to collect thoughts and formal comments on proposed changes to current regulations, or new regulations.

For more information on the public meetings, please e-mail EmergencyPreparedness.Resource@nrc.gov.
